On 15 May 2012, Aday.org created the most comprehensive photographic documentation of daily life ever made. During one single day, people in every country of the world picked up their cameras to picture their daily life. Hundreds of thousands of photographers took part and shared theirperspectives, from Hungary to Nepal, Spain to Uruguay, Japan and Samoa. With this project Aday.org aims to acknowledge both the documentation value of photography and its rapidly increasing role as a communication tool in our lives, for professionals and amateurs alike. But overall, this is a tribute to the power and joy of photography. What makes this project unique is that Aday.org also adds valuable information from behind the camera; who took the picture and where, what camera was used and why topic was chosen. The mission is to offer different perspectives, all aiming to spark reflections on humankind, today and tomorrow. In this spirit, the project is inclusive; both pro-photographers and amateurs are invited to take part and the aim is to cover every country in the world. Backed by generations of award winning photographers, A Day in The World presents the first global photography project that incorporates top photography talent with the worldwide public. Pros and amateurs alike are invited to share their view on the world. This book is a selection of the best photographs.
Aday.org was initiated by the non-profit foundation Expressions of Humankind. This foundation supports scientific research and education centred around the photographic image and the written word. The foundation's global advisory council includes Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Sir Richard Branson and artist Robyn. The Founding Partner is Ericsson, the world's leading provider of technology and services to telecom operators
