Portraits of young adults in Washington Square Park and the West Village of New York City, documenting those on the cusp of adulthood in one of the most culturally diverse areas of the USA
Amy Horowitz's superb street portraiture is all about connection. It's about being seen, heard, and understood, for those she photographs as well as for herself. For the past five years Amy has made portraits of young adults in Washington Square Park and the West Village of New York City, documenting those on the cusp of adulthood in one of the most culturally diverse areas of the country.
Amy is moved by how youth here explore their identities as they transition into adulthood during a tumultuous time in history. She looks for people with something visually interesting (hair, color, jewelry, tattoos, clothing) and an inner authenticity and vulnerability. Many are students pursuing creative careers in fashion, film, music, or art.
A Walk in the Park is a vibrant, beautiful and important document.
Amy Horowitz is a freelance photographer based in New York City. She studied at the International Center for Photography. Her award winning work has been exhibited domestically and internationally. This is her first book.
