Bruce Postles photographs form an important and enormously entertaining contribution to the illustrative record of the nation. Postle started his career at Queensland Country Life, before spending almost three decades with Fairfax. His assignments took him all over Australia, and his enthusiasm for getting the right shot took him into some very tight spots. Bruce photographed in the Serengeti plains in Tanzania, met the Queen and Princess Diana, and photographed every prime minister from Menzies to Howard. He covered the Westgate collapse, Brisbane floods, Ash Wednesday fires, papal visits, the Port Arthur Massacre and even two Fiji coups. He has photographed countless celebrities, from Sammy Davis Junior to Jon Farnham, Olivia Newton-John to Chuck Berry. He is a Walkley Award-winner and recipient of countless other commendations, including Australias Photographer of the Year. In 2007 he was awarded a Quill Lifetime Achievement Award. He is the only photographer to have a permanent collection of fifty photographs in the Hall of Fame at the National Sport Museum at the MCG, and he was inducted into the MCG Media Hall of Fame in recognition of his contribution as a photographer to sport.
