Born in Liberia, Claude was a first hand witness to the devastation of the Liberian Civil war before his departure for the United States. In the United States, he struggled to reconcile the image of Liberia he had known and the image of Liberia portrayed in various media outlets. Intent of presenting a unique view of the country, he embarked on the creation of Liberia, Portrait of a People.
