Description

Along with Women and Dogs (0954221761) - this pair of photo books are brilliant and original. Such an obvious idea that you can't believe it hasn't been done before. The books are 160pp each and feature fantastic archive shots of (respectively) men and women with their dogs. There is 100-200 words accompanying text for each image, talking about the subject, their dog(s), and the relationship between man/woman and dog. Subjects range through Dirk Bogarde to the Red Baron to Philip Pullman; Gertrude Stein to Gloria Estefan to Georgia O'Keefe. The photos are gorgeous and the text is a wonderful anecdotal social history of dogs and their owners.

Reviews

The design is outstanding, the books look fabulous (thanks to co-author Peter Dyer's design genius), but there's real substance. You can just look at the photos, but there's a lot to read too . . . I couldn't put them down! -- Clare Horton-Bussey * Dogs Today *
The real name of Neil Young's dog is Elvis, but he is called king by everyone - not least because of the royal treatment he receives . . . This is just one of the many stories and stunning images in two companion volumes, Men & Dogs and Women & Dogs, which take a pictorial look at our relationship with our proverbial best friends. The photographs have been chosen carefully chosen to be more than just snaps - each one has something to say about the psychological connection between the sitters . . . and there are great accompanying anecdotes. -- Alkarim Jivani * Time Out *
