"Idyllwild Wildfire Photo Chronicles" transports readers to July 15, 2013, when the Mountain Fire sparked near Idyllwild, CA, amidst a severe drought, high temperatures, and winds. This powerful book, by esteemed photographer Jenny Kirchner, paints a vivid picture of the wildfire that led to the evacuation of Idyllwild and surrounding communities. Kirchner, a long-time resident of the area, stayed behind to document the fire's onslaught and the courageous efforts of the first responders fighting to save their communities.
Through her lens, Kirchner captures the raw emotions, dramatic scenes, and the indomitable spirit of the community in the face of adversity. This book isn't just a photographic chronicle; it's a testament to resilience and courage, shedding light on the fragile balance between humans and nature. A decade after the fire, Kirchner offers this intense photographic narrative as a reminder of the catastrophe and a tribute to those who risked everything to combat it.
Jenny Kirchner, a native of Idyllwild, Southern California, is a renowned photographer whose work has won recognition on regional, state, and national levels. Since discovering her passion for photography at age 13, Jenny's journey has taken her from winning a scholarship from the North American Nature Photography Association to working with leading nature photographers worldwide.
Embarking on a career in photojournalism in her early twenties with the Idyllwild Town Crier, Jenny has spent over 15 years capturing her community's highs and lows through her lens. Her coverage of the 2013 Mountain Fire drew national attention, landing her an interview with Wolf Blitzer on his show "The Situation Room."
In 2023, a decade after the Mountain Fire, Jenny stepped into a new venture - authoring her first book, "Idyllwild Wildfire Photo Chronicles."
