Description

From the nomad jewellery of Mongolia and Tibet to the evocative silver and gold necklaces, bracelets, rings and earrings of the minority peoples of China, this book celebrates the beauty of 260 objects from the late 19th and early 20th centuries and will serve as the ultimate reference book on the jewellery of the minorities of China.Four essays by leading experts disclose the field for the general reader and provide valuable background information for jewellers, designers, art historians, collectors, dealers, and auctioneers. The influences of history, social structure, economics and politics illuminate the context of these fine objects of exquisite beauty and great originality. In addition to the hundreds of photographs of the jewellery, the volume includes a selection of colourful textiles and field photographs that put the jewellery in their context. Complete with detailed information about each individual object, including size, weight, material, function and area of origin, this sumptuous volume is the most comprehensive study of the subject available.
