Description

Brassai became interested in graffiti in the 1930s. It became a lifelong obsession, he continued to photograph graffiti and publish the photographs with his commentary until his death. One of Brassai's most important works, Graffiti presents the texts and photographs the photographer devoted to this 'art of the street'.

Author Bio

Brassai (1899-1984) is considered one of the most important and influential photographers of the twentieth century. He moved from Hungary to Paris in 1924, and is best known for chronicling the city in the 1930s and for his portraits of artists, such as Picasso and Matisse, and writers, including Henry Miller. His fifty-year artistic career also encompassed drawing, sculpture, writing, and film-making.
