This exhibition catalogue celebrates the works of five pivotal artists from the Arab world. This exhibition honors the careers of Dia Azzawi, Farid Belkahia, Ahmed Nawar, Ibrahim el-Salahi, and Hassan Sharif. It highlights their individual contributions to forging and promoting modern art and enriching the history of aesthetics in their respective countries, and their collective voice in articulating the different understandings of what we call Arab modernism today. Recognized nationally, regionally and globally, each of the five artists remain influential today for their contributions to aesthetics, education, nationalism, and innovationmovement. The catalogue demonstrates their artistic development from their early years to their more recent output.
Nada Shabout is an art history professor at the University of North Texas and a leading authority on modern Arab art. She is also the director of the Contemporary Arab and Muslim Cultural Studies Institute at UNT and one of the world's leading experts on contemporary Iraqi art.
