Description

The art of Tony Tuckson (1921-1973) is one of Australia's great treasures. A private artist for both personal and ethical reasons, Tuckson produced some of the best expressionist art ever made there. He was also an innovative arts administrator for over 20 years, presenting some of the earliest and most comprehensive exhibitions of Australian Aboriginal art and Melanesian art.

Tuckson situated himself at the crossroads of traditions. His art became in effect, an arena of Australian multi-culturalism, bringing European, Aboriginal, Melanesian, Asian, and American influences into play. The fantastic creative emergy unleashedin their clash, magnified by Tuckson's exceptional talent and wide-ranging experiece of modern art, made him a great artist of his time. From the earliest works of his art school days to the haunting masterpieces of the early 1970s, Painting Forever pays tribute to a modest, self-proclaimed "Sunday Painter."
