'Nature/Structure. There is no more to say. In my pictures I reduce to that. But 'reduce' is the wrong word, because these are not simplifications. I can't verbalize what I am working on: to me, it is many-layered by definition; it is what is more important, what is more true' - Gerhard Richter
This publication documents Gerhard Richter's experiment of taking an image of an original abstract painting and dividing it vertically into two. Each divided part is divided again, mirrored and repeated, producing ever narrower strips, which results in patterns. The result of 221 patterns is published here on 246 double-page images, reproduced with superlative attention to detail, colour and print quality. Gerhard Richter, regarded as one of the most influential and pre-eminent artists of our time, has involved himself personally and directly with this publication. The result is a book that will satisfy the most demanding and passionate of the artist's discerning admirers.
Gerhard Richter is a German visual artist, and one of the foremost artists of his generation. Richter has created abstract and photorealistic paintings, alongside photographs and pieces made from glass.
