Martin Kippenberger is now regarded as one of the most influential German artists of his time. His work was extremely prolific and varied, including an amalgam of sculpture, paintings, works on paper, photographs, installations, prints and ephemera. Volume IV of the Catalogue Raisonn, which is the first to be published, contains details of all his paintings made from 1993 to 1997. Each work is reproduced in full colour, along with any relevant source materials (where applicable). This volume also contains an overview of unfinished works. Each series or group of works is presented as a separate chapter with its own commentary covering the genesis of works as well as references to both Kippenberger's own work and that of other artists. The book also contains a chronological list of works with black-and-white thumbnails, a chronological list of exhibitions and a bibliography, which reflects Martin Kippenberger's own specific use of the terms 'exhibition catalogue', 'artist's book' and 'book'. The entries for these 225 paintings in total comprise catalogue number, title, year, media, dimensions, inscriptions, provenance, exhibitions and bibliography.
