No.1 Neighbour: Art in Papua New Guinea 1966-2016 celebrates the strength and diversity of contemporary art from Papua New Guinea, exploring works created from the mid 1960s, through Independence in 1975, to today. The publication features carvings, masks, shields, bilum (string bags), nioge (barkcloth), koromb (spirit houses), sculpture, photography, printmaking and painting, as well as noting the importance of performance and festivals. Featured artists include Hape, Timothy Akis, Mathias Kauage, Ruki Fame, Jakupa Ako, Simon Nowep, David Lasisi, Mary Gole, Wendi Choulai, Lisa Hilli, Taloi Havini, Julia Mage'au Gray and Eric Bridgeman, as well as the unique sound of 1980s band Sanguma.
