Description

Since South Africa's transition to democracy in 1994, Sue Williamson has continued to address social issues such as the AIDS epidemic through installations and artworks that combine photographic image, video and text. Her oeuvre reveals a deep appreciation of narrative, but also a commitment to research and reporting: she makes her artworks by telling history in the personal register, through the eyes and words of those most deeply involved. Sue Williamson's work is represented in many public collections including the Tate Modern and the Victoria and Albert Museum, the MoMa, the National Museum of African Art, Smithsonian Institution, just to name a few. Her recent awards include a Visual Art Research fellowship from the Smithsonian Institution and a Creative Arts Fellowship at Bellagio, Italy, from the Rockefeller Foundation.
