You know Q-Tip, Biggie, and Tupac, but you don't know them like this. The Legends of Hip Hop drops a visual roundup of fifty hip-hop icons, showcasing not only the DJs and MCs but also the graffiti artists, producers, B Boys, and others who have helped shape the hip-hop culture. Artist Justin BUA profiles fifty of the most iconic hip-hop legends of our time, painting each legend in portraiture style. Completewith an autobiographical narrative that traces the impact these trailblazing icons made on hip hop as well as on BUA's personal and professional life, this landmark volume is the definitive word on hip hop from its leading artist.
Justin Bua grew up in Manhattan and Brooklyn, NY. He attended Manhattans Fiorello H. LaGuardia HS of Music & Art and Performing Arts and the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, CA. He started his career doing slick bottom paintings for the skateboard industry. Over the years, BUA has designed CD covers for Warner Brothers, Atlantic Records, Sony Music, and BMG Music; animated the opening title sequence for MTVs The Lyricist Lounge Show; created the pilot for Comedy Centrals animated series Urbania; developed EAs video game NBA Street (and consulted on NFL Street); and designed a line of PF Flyer sneakers for New Balance (which sold out within hours of its release) in 2004 and 2005. He teaches Figure Drawing in the Fine Art Department at USC, and lives in Los Angeles.
