Description

This book brings together two of Wayne Thiebaud's most celebrated bodies of work: desserts and cityscapes. Between the two, fascinating juxtapositions develop. The layers of a Neapolitan cake echo the shadows cast across a street in the late afternoon, and the pastel hues of sponge cake and icing match the candy-coloured houses of the California cities Thiebaud has called home. With a foreword by an expert onThiebaud's work, ten short essays by curators, critics, and artists, 95 gorgeous images, and a faux dyed edge creating a layer cake effect on the book block, this is a rich and accessible celebration of an iconic artist.

Reviews

"Delicious Metropolis pairs painter Wayne Thiebaud's iconic confections with cityscapes in similar shades; in his eyes, Sacramento, California's pink skies and blue hills look sweet enough to eat." --Martha Stewart Living
"What a clever idea it is to take Wayne Thiebaud's most notable bodies of work--desserts and cityscapes--and place them in a book side by side to illustrate similarities between them.... Delightful." --California Homes Magazine
