Description

A How to book of step-by-step projects featuring painting techniques used by the Old Masters such as Rembrandt. Techniques in Painting is a richly illustrated book that teaches readers how to develop their painting skills by practising techniques used by the Old Masters. Brigid Marlin is an award-winning and highly experienced artist who has been using and teaching these techniques for decades. In these pages, Brigid Marlin explains how to paint a portrait in the style of Rembrandt, through step-by-step stages such as applying a red ground colour, painting in white egg tempera and applying a yellow glaze. Marlin explores still life painting through the art of the Italian Renaissance and the Mische technique, and throughout the book, by detailing how ancient skills can be revived and added to the artists toolkit, shows readers how to achieve effects that would otherwise be out of reach. Beautiful and detailed photographs cleverly illustrate each stage of the various projects and demonstrate how final creations come to life. Stunning works from the authors talented artist friends and former pupils conclude the book and show how the Old Masters techniques are still enthusiastically followed by many around the world.
